Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye
The cemetery, located in the community of Birdeye, east of Cherry Valley in Cross County. The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs operates the cemetery to commemorate the military service of our deceased veterans, their spouses and eligible dependents.
The 100-acre property was purchased by the state in 2008, and construction began in the Fall of 2010. The first interment was conducted in February 2012, when Colonel Thomas Blake, an Air Force veteran, was laid to rest. Blake led a committee of individuals in selecting the land to build the cemetery.
Our cemetery system provides the family and friends with an atmosphere of peacefulness and dignity. The staff of the Arkansas
State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye are dedicated to providing an honorable place of rest for veterans, to preserve the dignity, beauty, and serenity of this state-of-the-art facility; and to honor all who sacrificed so much, making possible the freedoms we enjoy every day.
Veterans, family members, veteran service organization members, community members, and funeral home directors are encouraged to visit this cemetery. Burial pre-arrangements are encouraged.
