Post 74 Honors War on Terrorism Veterans

The officers and members of the Michael Vann Johnson, Jr., American Legion Post #74, cordially invite you to attend a special memorial observance on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sherwood Forest located at 1111 West Maryland Avenue in Sherwood, Arkansas…just north of the North Little Rock Airport.

The ceremony is designed to honor the memory of ALL Armed Forces Service members from the State of Arkansas killed during the War against Terrorism. To this date, Arkansas has lost more than 100 men and women who have paid the ultimate price of their life in defense of this great nation.

Although Hospital Corpsman Michael Vann Johnson, Jr., who served with the 3rd Battalion, Fifth Marines, 1st Marine Division in Iraq, and was the first war casualty from Arkansas, this ceremony is to honor ALL those killed in the War Against Terrorism. American Legion Post #74 takes time out during this 15th anniversary to remember ALL our servicemen and women.

Our mission as American Legionnaires is to serve God and Country, the needs of ALL veterans, their families, our communities, and our state. Our goal with this memorial is to keep the memory alive of those fighting in the war against terrorism in order to preserve our country’s freedom and democracy.

Again, memorial services will be at the Sherwood Forest located at 1111 West Maryland Avenue in Sherwood, Arkansas…just north of the North Little Rock Airport. ALL veterans and Armed Forces Service Members are invited to attend, and the public is encouraged to share in this memorable occasion to honor those who gave all for their country.

Riders needed


ATTENTION ALL MOTORCYCLE RIDERS…

The 15th Annual Fallen Heroes Memorial Observance will be held on March 14, 2020 and we need ALL motorcycle groups to participate!!!

The officers and members of the Michael Vann Johnson, Jr., American Legion Post #74, cordially invite you to attend a special memorial observance on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sherwood Forest located at 1111 West Maryland Avenue in Sherwood, Arkansas… just north of the North Little Rock Airport.

A special motorcade to the event consisting of numerous state and local organizations, will leave Post #74 (821 Magnolia Street, North Little Rock) at 9:00 a.m., and media representatives are encouraged to attend both events.

Governor set to lay wreath at Vietnam Veterans Memorial March 23

The Governor of the State of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, will lay a wreath at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the Arkansas State Capitol  Monday March 23 at 10 a.m.

This  open to the public ceremony honors those Vietnam Veterans who were killed in action.

The event begins a week-long recognition and Welcome Home for Vietnam Veterans who served in the military between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975.

These recognitions include the 2020 Veitnam Veterans Commemoration scheduled for 1 p.m.. March 29 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

March 29 is  National Vietnam Veterans Day. 

On March 28, 2017, the president signed into law The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 (PL 115-15), designating every March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. March 29, 1973 is the day the Military Assistance Command Vietnam was deactivated.

Celebrating Vietnam Era Veterans in a ceremony in Pine Bluff March 29, 2020

Arkansas is celebrating Vietnam  Veterans who served in the military between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, with a Vietnam War Commemoration ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m.  March 29 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

Pine Bluff Convention Center is located at 1 Convention Plaza, Pine Bluff Arkansas.

March 29 is  National Vietnam Veterans Day. 

On March 28, 2017, the president signed into law The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 (PL 115-15), designating every March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. March 29, 1973 is the day the Military Assistance Command Vietnam was deactivated.

Veterans and their family members will be have access to one-on-one counseling on VA healthcare and benefits as well as other state programs for veterans.  The event is open to registered veterans, their family members and their guests.

Veterans have until March 20 at 4 p.m. to register online.  See link below.

Registered participants will receive a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin and a certificate.

Registration is necessary to arrange for Vietnam Veteran Commemoration Lapel Pins which will be presented to veterans after the ceremony by the military leaders from the community.
